HOW M-SERIES REBUILD LLC CAME INTO BEING

It all started in 1985 when I bought a 1963 Dodge M37B1 to use as a service truck in my grading business. Having spent 3 years on active military duty in Europe where I was able to operate and service various trucks and equipment, I quickly gained respect for military trucks. The M37 is one tough vehicle, I liked the truck for lots of reasons but knew it would be much more serviceable with a few upgrades, like diesel power, better brakes, higher speed ring & pinion gears and POWER steering. I soon learned of the Hercules diesel repower engine and was able to link up and see a prototype truck at a rally at White Owl Parts Company in Kinston, N.C.

I purchased the first repower package sold in the U. S. and installed it in my M37. A few weeks later I was approached about selling and installing some engines in my area of the southeast. I was affiliated with the Hercules program for a few years until Hercules was bought out and eventually went out of business. Inquiries kept coming for diesel repower units, especially the M37. I set out to engineer a repower unit to be marketed for the M37, and after much checking with various manufacturers, decided on a CUMMINS 4BTA, 3.9 liter, 130HP diesel and a Spicer 5-speed overdrive transmission.

I have since left the grading business, and what started as a need for a good off road service truck, a desire to make it better, then a part time business, mainly for a winter job when weather was to bad for grading, has turned into a full time M-SERIES truck repair, rebuilding, restoration, and repower, business.

Many changes taking place at M Series Rebuild, LLC

At the start back in 1985, our main emphasis was mostly building all-wheel drive military trucks with common sense and specialty upgrades for practical use purposes geared toward business and service industry applications, farm tractor and heavy construction equipment rebuild / restoration. We still offer these services with better quality materials and workmanship than ever before; however over years we have expanded our capabilities into the corporate and individual collector vehicle market.

The civilian DODGE POWER WAGON vehicles; 1946 - 1968 are largely responsible for our decision to move in this direction. Numerous requests for rebuild / restoration services for the “Flat fender” Power Wagons opened up a whole new market for us. These trucks fit right into our area of expertise being a direct spin off from the WWII era DODGE WC series military trucks. Most requests for the Power Wagons have been for frame up, high end, collector, and show quality restoration builds. We have built with an emphasis on daily driver spec’s suitable for use on today’s modern highways, as well as museum quality perfection throughout the entire build process. Our technicians in the body shop offer full structural and sheet metal fabrication / restoration services and paint, while in the mechanical build / assembly shop we offer the best in rebuilt mechanical, electrical components, and upgraded systems based on individual client specs.

Requests have ranged from rebuilding Grandad’s Power Wagon that he once used on the farm, trucks designed for snow plow duty, show trucks going to the Rallies, with absolute pristine workmanship in mechanical, electrical, interiors, body / frame, using the highest quality PPG DELTRON refinish products, applied by our PPG certified technicians, then buffed to mirror gloss perfection. These builds range from exacting original spec’s to highly customized vehicles with original power train components to electronic ECM controlled Cummins Diesel engines. Our specialty trends are aimed at building Power Wagons using the original components that are premium quality rebuilt right here in house with modern upgrades to suit client needs. If your desire is to have your truck built using most of the original components it had in place when it rolls out the door that it had when it rolled in; WE OFFER THE SERVICE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. Our trend is not toward taking a Power Wagon body, and building a truck using “out of the box” hybrid, NON – DODGE components, so if you want a GENUINE restored stock or upgraded Power Wagon that is capable of running with traffic on the freeway, while retaining the integrity of a “REAL POWER WAGON”, we would like an opportunity to discuss your build plans with you. Call us and come by so we can show you what we have to offer with a first class rebuild / restoration.

We continue to offer the same high quality component rebuild service as from the beginning; the best workmanship with warranty. This includes engine, transmission, PTO, transfer case, axles, steering, electrical and fuel system components.

Please browse our client photo galleries for an in depth look at how we can turn some of the worst condition vehicles into the best. You can keep track of day to day processes at M Series Rebuild by following us on Facebook. Photos of current processes in the works are posted several times a week on our Facebook page.
